I’m being absolutely serious here, Airlines have gone above and beyond! In April of 2019, I attempted my first solo with kids trip to Redondo Beach California. We were staying with family so once I got there it wouldn’t be an issue, but getting there. Yikes! Greta stayed home with family because I’m crazy, but not that crazy. I’d totally let her go next time when she’s a little older.
I warned and prepared the kids as much as possible but I was scared!! The flight went smoothly as could go, especially with the built-in movie choices. The kids were thoroughly amused by the videos and games, it was quite the added bonus that they didn’t have to share! And I FINALLY was able to watch Bad Moms! It was beyond words perfect to be able to watch a movie with bad words and they were none the wiser!! I seriously felt like I was living on the edge, watching a rated R movie, and the kids were in present… unheard of! The flight itself went better than expected but once we were getting off of the plane, that’s when the magic started.
We were waiting to exit the plane when the pilot pulled the kids aside and asked if they wanted to see the cockpit. Umm… YES! That is seriously what dreams are made of. He allowed each of the kids to sit in the cockpit and ask questions. He told them what it took to become a pilot!
To become a pilot, you had to meet a few requirements:
- You had to be good looking! He said that the kids all met that requirement!
- You have to study really hard in school and get good grades.
- You have to always listen to your mom and dad. The kids all got a little quiet on this one but no one said anything about their Dad being gone. It was nice having someone else telling them to listen to me!!!
You have to study hard in school and get good grades.
Seriously amazing. I’m not sure how we were picked but man am I thankful!!! Delta has made the kid’s first flight simply unforgettable! Hopefully, they didn’t get the impression that this always happens, but it was so cool that it did! They were given a set of silver wings from the flight attendants and gold wings from the pilot along with a trading card of the plane that we rode.
After each kid got a turn ‘flying the plane’ they realized that the crew was all male. At this point, we were the last passengers on the plane, and it was already starting to be cleaned. I offered to take their picture, and then they did a second one with my kids. Don’t worry, I totally took a picture of them on their phone without my kids! Seriously amazing!!!
